Amtrak from Chicago to South Haven

Hi, we are travelling to Chicago from the UK for one night, then onto South Haven via Amtrak, proably getting off at Bangar. Does anybody have any experience of checking in baggage on Amtrak, and also what happens when retreaving baggage when getting off at destination? Also is Bangar our best option of station in order to get to South Haven?

Any help would be appreciated.

No experience with Amtrak. But South Haven is an easy/scenic drive from Chicago. Why not hire (rent) a car here and drive to South Haven?

I don%26#39;t know about the bag checking thing, but I would definitely do the train instead of sitting in traffic, especially depending on the time of day and construction. Banger is a short drive.

Amtrak does not check baggage on this short of a trip - you just bring it on board with you and then carry it off yourself at your stop. Some bags will fit in overhead storage above your seat and larger bags are placed on the ends of each train car. If you are in a double-decker train car, there are racks on the fist level to leave your bags. Hope this helps!
