Wondering why Swissotel is offering such reasonable weekend rates (i.e. $99) Is there construction going on in the hotel or nearby? Is it convenient for walking to sites i.e. Navy Pier, Along the River, Michigan Avenue shopping, Hancock, EL etc.

Or would the North Michigan Ave hotels be more convenient, nicer?

Thanks for any advice
Swissotel area or North Michigan Ave for convenience
The Swissotel is certainly convenient for access to Navy Pier (and the lake view rooms offer an exceptional view of the Navy Pier Fireworks.) But it%26#39;s a little bit of a hike to Michigan Avenue, so if shopping and dining along the Mag Mile is your focus, you might want to consider a property on North Michigan, such as the Omni. They%26#39;re still running a special on Travelzoo as well with a food %26amp; beverage credit %26amp; parking if you need it. Not quite as cheap as the Swissotel, but still an excellent value. Both properties are nice (I%26#39;ve stayed at both - the Swissotel was a little worn but has since been renovated.) Also keep in mind that there is construction near both hotels. But that%26#39;s true of so many areas downtown. In all honesty, I prefer to stay in the River North area - lots of great restaurants %26amp; relatively easy access to the Theatre District or NMA. There are so many hotels to choose from. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn a few months back; got it for $53 a night on Hotwire and was very pleased. It wasn%26#39;t 5 star luxury but nice, updated, spacious rooms and reasonable parking ($29 a day) right in the same building.
Swissotel area or North Michigan Ave for convenience
With this economy, you are going to find all kinds of deals that don%26#39;t reflect the quality of the hotel, it just reflects the economy. The Swisshotel is right along the river, walking distance to Navy Pier, Millenium Park and State Street Shopping. It%26#39;s also close to Nordstroms, Kenneth Cole but further away from the shopping from the Water Tower shopping. Personally, I love the Swiss and the Fairmont (another hotel in the area).
great advice---many thanks
The Swiss is very convenient to several el lines. It%26#39;s a few short blocks to Michigan Ave (so not exactly a great hardship), but from there it%26#39;s roughly a mile to the north end of the Magnificent Mile (Hancock et. al.) Still, it%26#39;s not like everything worth doing on Michigan Ave. is at the very north end. There%26#39;s stuff all along. Swiss is obviously closer to the museum campus, Millennium and Grant Parks, the State Street shopping area, and the theater district than any hotel located on the north end of Michigan Ave. Hotels in River North have advantages and disadvantages too.
If you can get a steal there compared to the deals offered at other hotels, why not enjoy a really nice meal with the savings?
I don%26#39;t think the Swiss is that close to several els. The redline runs under State and the loop lines are a bit of a walk too. It%26#39;s not terrible, but not out the door either.
