We will be visiting Chicago to take my son to visit Columbia, which is in the South Loop. From what I%26#39;ve read, it sounds like we would want to stay at a hotel closer to either the Magnificent Mile or River North area and take public transportation to visit the school just because it looks like there%26#39;s more to do in those areas. So far the best prices I%26#39;ve gotten are for either the Westin River North or the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. Does anyone have any input as to which of these two is better as far as location, amenities, cleanliness, etc? We want to be in a location that%26#39;s close to the sites, shopping and restaurants. Also, about how long would it take to get from these areas to the college by subway? I can%26#39;t book a hotel on Priceline or Hotwire because there will be more than two people in the room and they won%26#39;t guarantee you%26#39;ll have two beds. I%26#39;ve gotten a rate of $179 at the Westin and $149 at the Marriott. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both are good choices--and they are relativley close to each other but probably the Westin is a bit of a nicer property but I would still choose the Marriott in your case as the bus right outside the door will take you down to Columbia in about 10 minutes. Also, the Marriott is next door to Nordstroms shopping area, Kenneth Cole and not far from all the other North Michigan Water Tower shopping. Westin has less shopping right in the vicinity but a little more clubs and restaurants.
