Our 40 year old son and his girl friend, my wife and I all love to cook. We will be spending a week in Chicago at the end of June and would like to know if there is a restaurant or other facility that features a cooking class with hands on prepartion with the meal to follow. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Hawkeyes

Cooking Classes
Sur la table also has cooking classes at the Walton Street store (just off Michigan Ave.). Go to their website and check the calendar for classes. They are fun and quite varied.
a tavola (Italian) on W. Chicago. Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. by reservation only - $50 pp (not including tax, tip and wine). The chef helps you prepare a 4-course meal, which you then enjoy. Take a look at the website for details.
Now, if you were looking for classes on artisan cheeses, wines, beer, etc. without the hands-on prep, Pastoral: Artisan Cheese, Bread %26amp; Wine has them at both of their locations (original on N. Broadway in Boystown and the second location in the Loop).
You should be aware that the Taste of Chicago will be running when you are here. Cooking demonstrations by some of the better chefs in Chicago are held all day long at the Dominick%26#39;s Cooking Corner over by Buckingham Fountain. Emeril Lagasse will be appearing on the first day at 4 p.m. (June 26). They also give out free cookbooks containing some of the recipes done during the course of the Taste.
Thanks for all of the information! This is a very helpful forum and is much appreciated!
