Is the EL the best bet from O%26#39;Hare to Downtown Chicago area. Still considered safe on weekends?

Same question from Downtown/North River area to Wrigley
Many thanks
EL on Weekends
The L is fine on the weekends. If you%26#39;re going to Wrigley, and it%26#39;s a game day, it will be bustling.
Generally the L is safe at any time. At odd hours (some lines run all night) it may be more secure to be in the front car, where the motorman is.
At non-rush hours a taxi from O%26#39;Hare to downtown will be faster (and less hassle), but you can%26#39;t beat the $2.25 per person that the L costs.
EL on Weekends
Thanks -- so you think a taxi would be faster say mid-morning Friday and mid afternoon Sunday to/from airport? I was considering EL only due to traffic
The El is relatively safe during the weekend times...if time is a factor it takes about 45 minutes from O%26#39;Hare to downtown...and as the previous poster said its only $2.25. A cab would probably cost you around $40-50 from downtown.
As far as El vs cab on the times you mentioned, the Kennedy (which is the expressway that runs through downtown out to O%26#39;Hare) can be crowded during those times...Friday afternoon is when people are coming into the city and Sunday night/Monday morning are when they are heading out...your preference on what mode of transportation to take.
Actually the outbound Kennedy, which is the highway from downtown to the airport, can be really crowded even during the middle of the day on Sunday. I am often amazed as I%26#39;m driving home from my church, which is in the west Loop, at how backed up the Kennedy can be.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is weekend construction on the Blue Line, resulting in closures.

THe thing about the Kennedy is it%26#39;s crowdedness is unpredictable. Of course, during rush hour it%26#39;s a mess and in the rain at any time it%26#39;s a parking lot. But like a previous poster alluded to, at unexpected times it gets very busy. I had an early morning flight at 6:00 am which meant I was on the Kennedy at 5:00 am and it was bumper to bumper out to Ohare. So I would certainly take the train, at least it%26#39;s predictable.
Thanks so much for all your advice---very much appreciated
